Access congratulates Terri Chandler, RDH, of Las Vegas, Nev., on her recognition by VEGAS INC in its selection of “Health Care Headliners 2012.” The VEGAS INC Health Care Headliners Award was presented by a business magazine under Greenspun Media. Chandler is the founder/executive director of Future Smiles, a non-profit school-based oral health program that addresses unmet health needs of at-risk children. Their services are provided at local schools and include preventive oral health care screenings, education, dental cleaning, protective sealants and fluoride varnish. The program’s success stems from a unique delivery system that starts the early stages of preventive oral health learning with intent to decrease the incidence of oral disease.

“It was very special to be recognized by the business community, and as a public health dental hygienist, the recognition by VEGAS INC as a Health Care Headliner is quite an honor for me. The fact that VEGAS INC included me in its selection of dental professionals signals that our constant efforts to deliver excellent school-based oral health care to underserved children has been noticed and appreciated by the community at large," Chandler said.

"It is deeply gratifying to be recognized in this way, and more importantly, it brings recognition to the wonderful Future Smiles team of public health dental hygienists who invest their passion and professional talents to improve the health and well-being of needy children. This is a very special moment for us all!”

Future Smiles, which began in 2009, has earned recognition from Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and support from Senator Harry Reid’s office. Because of strategic partnerships with organizations such as the Clark County School District, United Way of Southern Nevada, the City of Las Vegas, the Public Education Foundation and Compliance Alliance, Future Smiles has improved the lives of more than 3,500 at-risk kids.

According to the website, “Future Smiles provides vital oral health care to vulnerable children, decreasing the incidence of oral disease, thus instilling positive oral health behavior for a lifetime. We are deeply committed to the health of the children and families that we serve and are proud to provide oral health care to more than 200 children a month in Southern Nevada. You can find our Future Smiles’ team members at local schools, Family Enrichment Resource Centers (FERCs), health fairs and other community events.”
